Silat Training and efforts to train.

I get a lot of people that want to train silat but they do not want to pay for it. I do not charge ridiculous high fees. I am very reasonable. I even work with students to help them afford to train. my teachers have been generous I also show generosity. I have spent thousands of dollars to learn this art. I also get a lot of people that say they want to train silat with me. A lot of them tell me "I want to go but its too far for me". (Aprox 5 to 20 miles away). I have traveled across the country and all over the USA & all over the UK to learn Silat (thousands of miles). Spent a tremendous amount of money, sweat, time, and spent even sleepless nights to learn what i know. I am still preparing to travel all over the world to learn more silat. So please if you tell me that 5 to 20 miles is to far to come to class. Then you don't really want to learn Silat and you don't really want to train Silat and you really don't have the desire to really become Silat. The training is there for you but you have to make the effort to come learn silat and you have to want to train Silat with me so I can actually teach you. Now come to silat class when you are ready. If you are in Los Angeles Seek out Maha Guru Cliff Stewart. If you are in UK seek out Guru Muhammad Arifin & Guru Simon Das. They are amazing Silat teachers and know their stuff. Aside from that they do it from the heart and they do it for real. Others just want to dangle the "Silat" carrot in front of you as you waste 16 years training in a system that goes nowhere and when the student is done they can't even fight his or her way out of a wet paper bag. Or they claim they teach silat but instead they make you do countless ours of JKD instead and only a little silat on the weekend class. And in order to learn more silat from them they make you pay more than what you already pay a month to learn it. Instead of just teaching you Silat alone. Cause somehow they feel you need the "other" fillers in there to make students better at Silat. Give me a break. If a student wants to learn Silat teach them Silat! So you should go see my teachers or you can get on a plane and come see me I will teach you what you want to learn about Silat. I have also heard people say "oh he is too young he can't know enough about Silat to teach me". I have over 3,720 hours of actual teaching time alone in Silat that doesn't include my own personal training time and training under some of the best masters in the world. Some "masters" at best teach only once a week for one hour. Yet because they wear the "gear" and the Logos and the belts some how people assume they have actual teaching experience. Some of them actually have never tested or been put to a real life test with their silat. I have gotten also from folks "oh he has no experience he is too young" I have used the art to survive several real encounters during doing body guard work in South Florida. "Oh he has no real school & no Uniforms" Uniforms wont teach you how to Fight nor survive a real conflict. My "Actual" School has mats they are made out of Concrete and Solid Earth. Some of the best silat training i have done has been out doors and in all masters' hard kitchen floors. If you really want to learn silat and you really want to learn how to defend yourself and your family then you want to get off your Butt and come to my Silat Classes or seminars soon. Subject: D.I. Silat Tip 26: NLP/ Creative Visualization "ILMU"
The Dobles Institute News:
Silat Tip 26: NLP/ Creative Visualization "ILMU"

SILAT TIP The power of intention & reframing negative thought
patterns.

What you believe and affirm to yourself eventually makes changes in
your mind and ultimately in the physical realm for you.

The ancients knew this, that is why the emphasized mantra, heartfelt
intentions and cultivate mind body & spirit.

In some schools of Silat in Java & sumatra, mantras and sufi prayers
go hand in hand with their training. Some schools have a mantra or
sound or "concept" for every juru.

words can have power and meaning on a very deep level. And some even
have a resonance that can effect or change the vibes inside you.

Recently there have been tests done on water that demonstrate the
effects of what you say or words or resonance has on water in secure
environments.

The research is very interesting considering that your body is 80%
water.

I encourage you to take a look at what folks are realizing.

Please research https://www.hado.net/watercrystals/index.php see for
yourself the effects of prayer, affirmation, intention (positive &
negative).

When you train think:

"I am getting better at my Silat".

"I am understanding more and more my Silat"

"I am happy when I train more"

"I am feeling comfortable in my body when I train Silat"

Usually saying "I AM ___________" will make your mind/body react. So
the key is to say positive after the I AM. And not things like I am
sick I am tired etc.......

Instead I am healthy, I am happy, I am POSITIVE.

Be creative. Affirmations can be very powerful.

Here is more that can help you get a better "Mind Set".

The mind sometimes needs to be "REFRAMED" or re wired to improve its
functions.

For example

Write on a piece of paper a negative:

For example:

Negative: " I tend to think I am slow in my movements when I train
silat"

Reframe with questions.

REFRAME WITH at least 10 POSITIVE QUESTIONS for every negative
statement:

1) Could it be you are beginning to understand how to properly move so
you can move faster and more efficiently?

2) Could it be your body needs to relax more so you can move more
efficiently and ultimately at a faster speed?

3) Could it be you need to replace speed with timing and positioning
to truly seem faster and to truly overcome speed?

Here is another example:

Negative: I tend to feel like I am i am not learning Silat fast enough
and my body just doesn't "get it".

POSITIVE:

1) Could it be you learn at the pace that is best for your mind and
body to absorb the information properly together?

2) Could it be you have to allow your body to feel the movements and
the positions so you can understand the art better?

3) Could it be you have to see your self move appropriately with silat
in your mind first and then do the specific movement you want to
train?

4) Could it be you need to listen to your body to understand the pace
at which you should be learning naturally?

Here is another example in a different context:

Negative:

"I tend to feel lazy about training."

POSITIVE REFRAME:

"could it be you just have to make time for training?"

"could it be you just have to train a little each day till it becomes
habit and eventually 1 hour a day?"

"Could it be you need to learn to think about training as well as
physically train to get the most out of your time?"

"Could it be you need to change the way you train to feel inspired
again?"

"Could it be you need to try training in a way that will stimulate you
more?"

"Could it be you need to spend more time in the ground in low
postures?"

This is a very important technique from NLP used in business, success
etc.

It works very well and can be applied to any "issue".

Write down negative you my find you have about yourself and then
reframe them with positive questions.

Why Questions? The brain likes to solve problems and to "quest" for
answers.

Try with things that relate to your training. Then work on more
personal issues and reframe them.

Have fun. The subconscious mind is VERY POWERFUL. Research NLP,
Richard Bandler, Milton Erickson.

Another creative thing to do is MENTALLY TRAIN. See scenarios and work
them out. Guru CLiff told me to train this way and that it was key in
his W.A.R. method for elite body gaurds.

Dr. Morris used to do a meditation named "DAMO's CAVE" where you set
up a mental construct to train and work out your enlightenment and
cultivation.

One thing he would do is have a mental dojo to work out in and to
train with any imaginary teacher you wish. It could be an animal, a
guru, sensei, sifu, master you know or do not know. Practice your
jurus or langkahs in that mental dojo.

This is EXTREMELY useful for training and also allowing the
subconscious mind teach you. Sometimes when I practice this I notice i
get better in the real world with out much effort.

Any time you visualize your self doing a physical activity, you are
strengthening the "wiring" and neurological connections to the muscles
and the nervous system/ brain.

Olympic athletes do this all the time. So why not explore your potential as well? Besides...... Training just the physical is boring.

GIRI

Silat Tip 28: THE CONCEPT OF GURU & GIRI why they go hand in hand

Giri (Japanese) - a Japanese value roughly corresponding to "duty", "obligation", or even "burden of obligation" in English.
Giri (Sanskrit) - in an Indian context, "Giri," means "mountain" (e.g. nilgiri, ratnagiri). As a Sanskrit honorific it means "venerable, elevated, worshipful" and it is in that sense that the title is applied to Sannyasins." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giri
" The birth of the concept of giri occurred during the feudal period in Japan, and holds the highest regard in human relationships. A basic breakdown of the the relationships are: Master-subordinate, parent-child, husband-wife, brothers-sisters, friends, and sometimes even enemies and business associates. The most basic definition one can give giri is a debt of gratitude and a self-sacrificing pursuit of their happiness.

Everyday examples of giri can be found in social customs such as New Year's cards, gifts such as year end presents. When one does act involuntarily to a person to whom one feels giri, one must not take into account one's own suffering when alleviating or helping another out of a difficult situation." - http://japanese.abou...ly/aa071497.htm

THE CONCEPT OF GURU & GIRI why they go hand in hand.

In Japan there is a concept that is similar to KARMA. Its called "Giri".

My Hoshin Tao Chi Kung, Hoshinjutsu & Ninpo teacher Soke Dr. Glenn J Morris always taught us that one had to have "GIRI". It was even above KARMA to a Budo warrior.

What does this have to do with Silat? Just wait I'll get to it....

Soke Morris used to say if you take once give back twice. If you are given once give back twice. Or if you have received something special, a valuable lesson, a gift, a form of energy, a chance to learn or experience something in life than you would make it your obligation to always to honor and pay back in some way at least twice those that gave you such gifts or lessons, experience or energy. How would you do that? You would always give them back either by giving them credit, giving them energy, doing something special for the person, always being there for them.

For example Hatsumi Sensei Promoted Dr. Morris to high Black Belt level in Ninjutsu, Glenn turn around and made sure Hatsumi Sensei received several honorary Doctorate degrees from respected USA Universities and always mentions and credits Hatsumi in all his published works. (THAT IS GIRI). If we gave energy work or healing or showed Glenn something he would always turn around and load us up with more info, energy, understanding. If you gave him once he would give you twice. You get it?

Usually this concept is expected of students but not of the Guru itself. WRONG........

The Guru should have a form of GIRI towards his or her students as well.

The Guru receives from the students a form of payment, an exchange of energy, a chance to teach, a chance to heal if he is of the healing types. Those are the experiences that allow the Guru to be a Guru. Its not a Piece of paper that says you are a GURU. That does not make you a Guru nor qualified to teach, heal, guide coach etc.

Now here is where the concept gets very interesting. A lot of times GURUS, SIFUS, SENSEIS, PENDEKARS, MAHAGURUS, forget that its their OBLIGATION to take care of their students and to back them up no matter what as it is the students job to do the same for their teacher. Giri is similar to ADAT HORMAT or way of conduct and respect found in PENCAK SILAT. But its a little more. IMMORTALITY of a teacher and his or her methods comes through the longevity of their students and the carriers of their wisdom. If there is no GIRI in a system it will not evolve or grow or survive. Some one has to value it and honor its roots and maintain it and give back at least twice to the systems, the teachers, the future students etc.

To be the teacher you need students, but to be the true teacher you teach your students to teach themselves and to teach others and you value their efforts and time spent training.

I have seen in the martial arts how things go sour when there is no concept of value or "giri" implemented to the system. A lot of folks promise things but few deliver. A lot of folks keep their students as indentured servants.

What happens if you negatively show no giri?....

If you forget your students once they will forget you twice.......

A lot of folks claim to be pendekars but can't even heal themselves. A pendekar is a healer/warrior/shaman. Its not a title you buy. If you think you are one i suggest you test your skills with people with real problems (tumors, HIV, serious illness, Schizophrenia etc) A real Guru is a guide and a protector. In Java a real silat master is more than just a fighter. They take the value and spiritual side very serious as well.

Martial arts with only "FIGHTING" is incomplete. The balance is needed to understand the full circle.

As Soke Glenn said to me in his garage as I received a serious ass whoopin -

"To learn to hurt you must learn to heal." He took away the damage and pain in seconds using energy work and Chi Gung.

"If you take once give back twice"

Meditation:

1) breath in for 4 seconds

2) exhale for 8

increase each ratio by one second till you go to your max.

If you take from the universe/Creator one breath give it back twice as you exhale!

Healing:

If you received healing or energy or chi from someone give them back 2x's what you received.

Martial Giri:

if he hit you once you hit twice! Generously GIVE IT to those that BRING IT.

Giri leads to generosity. Generosity leads to Abundance. KEEP intentions positive.

What is a Guru's Giri? To teach the art to those that want to learn it with out secrets and with out holding back information in fear of loosing something, to be there for the students when no one else will, to be a protector and a healer, to evolve the arts even further than when they first experienced the art. If you as a teacher show Giri to your students. your students will always show Giri back to you even when you pass. Life is unpredictable and not as long as we all hope or wish for. But I know from experience because I have had teachers that have passed. I still show Giri to the teachers that showed me Giri and even to those that lacked Giri. And it has made me a better person and a better teacher to pass on what i know.

Try to implement GIRI in your life whether it be with your family, teachers, students, friends, elders, enemies etc. Ultimately we are all part f the same divine source so by showing Giri you are showing the highest form of value to your true nature.

Peace

Subject: D.I. Silat Tip 11: Why Only Silat?

Subject: D.I. Silat Tip 11: Why Only Silat?
Silat Tip 11: Why Only Silat?

"Why do you only do Silat? Why do you not Cross train? You used to do
Muay Thai, JKD, KALI, how come now you only do SILAT? Silat is an
incomplete art there is no ground fighting like BJJ or UFC?"

Here is my answer:

Do we train stand up fighting & defending against one attacker? Yes

Against 2 attackers? Yes

Against 3 to 4 attackers ? Yes

Against a Knife attack ? Yes

Against a stick? Yes

Against a Gun ? Yes

Do we train against common ground attacks? Yes

Do we deal well with Single leg & double leg takedowns? Yes

Do we have ground fighting? Yes

Do we train dealing with multiple attackers while being on the ground?
Yes

Can we do what we do standing on the ground or on one knee or lying on
our backs? Yes

Do we deal with defending against attacks with out the use of our arms
as if handcuffed? Yes

Do we deal with being in locks or chokes? Yes

Do we use chokes and locks ? Yes but we do not stay to long in them to
become vulnerable to the next attacker. In the real "shit hits the fan"
scenario, you do not have much time; you have to either take the balance
or take the consciouness of the attacker ASAP by what ever means
neccesary.

Do we deal with learning how to attack or defend against armed and
unarmed attacks while "bodygaurding" defending someone else (a
bodygaurd client or family member). Yes

Here is a another one I always hear:

"All you guys do is take downs like Sapu & Biset there is no real
hitting or knocking people out like you see in the ring."

Do we kick? Yes

Do we work kicking with 360 degree awareness? Yes

Do we punch and also use open palm strikes? Yes

Do we elbow? I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANOTHER ART THAT USES THE ELBOW SO
EFFECIENTLY AND IN SO MANY WAYS.

Do we have a full understanding of Dim Mak? Marma Adi Pressure points?
Yes

We train Silat to Survive and Protect. Survival and mantaining of life
is the main priority by whatever means neccessary.

If your art allows you to still survive an attack and to protect
others even when you are drunk, half asleep, weak, young, old, skinny,
fat, in shape, out of shape, handicapped, then you are doing something
that is more or less SILAT.

In my opinion you would have to combine many "arts" to even come close
to the completeness of such an art such as Pencak Silat.

PUKULAN OR POEKOELAN: STRIKING WITH A REASON OR PURPOSE

PENT: EXACT OR PRECISE

JAK: USE

SILAT: TO FIGHT

Silat means Fighting.

We study the art of Fighting.

Now with this said, I believe that any good art that truly teaches
principles and teaches one to understand all aspects of Combat and
Fighting is just as good as any good Silat.

All true Internal Martial and Combative Arts in their highest levels
all start to look the same. This is why no matter what one should
always respect all martial art practitioners and various Styles of
martial arts. Its not the art itself its the practitioner that makes
the art.

Best wishes to all of you in your practice and your martial Path. If
you feel compelled to "cross train" do what your heart tells you. And
listen to your body. I have noticed that when real fighting occurs
most of the "art" goes out the window. But if you are real good the
"science and Strategy" stays with you to the end in a fight. Wars are
won on strategy and exact science so are fights. Use your heads and
stay out of trouble. Use your art as a means to self mastery and self
expression and protection of yourself and loved ones. Happy Holidays!

Subject: D.I. Silat Tip 10: The Truth about Silat, the Badui, and Tenaga Dalam Silat Tip 10: The Real Story

Subject: D.I. Silat Tip 10: The Truth about Silat, the Badui, and Tenaga Dalam
Silat Tip 10: The Real Story

I went out to dinner last night and found myself in a restaurant that
had 2 people from Indonesia.

Just my luck!!!! One was from Banten, the other was from Jakarta.

Both know people from the Badui and both studied Silat and Ilmu in
Indonesia. I was thrilled! My wife ordered another round of drinks
and soon our dinner became long affair discussing Silat.

After many long hours of sharing about Silat & Tenaga Dalam the real
secret behind SILAT came out into the conversation.

My friend from Banten said his master always says, Silat is not about
fighting its about Self Control, Patience, above all, always Smiling
and Faith. If you believe in what you do fully with your heart you can
do it.

He said people here in the "Amerika" spend more time watching movies
about Spider man and Super man, he says come to my country and I will
show you the real spider man and super men.

He said that there are some things you just have to see for
yourself about Indonesia; that it is really something like x-men what
some of these masters can do.

They said the real masters do not fight they simply act and make
changes in the world instantaneously by positive thinking. They said
the art is from the ancients it was a way of living in peace with good
health.

Silat to them is about playing and cultivating their mind body &
spirit. He says if you want to get good get up at 4 am and do Silat or
breathing exercises till the sun is fully risen.

Also I heard stories of some of the masters that could actually make a
person holding a gun sick or confused so he or she would shoot wrong.

Also heard stories of masters that could display such feats as walking
on water, eating glass, electrocuting people with their bare hands and
energy alone.

Also heard stories of those that walked the path of light or what they
call "White Magic" and those that are of the "BlackMagic".

People who could conjure things to help them in life and in battle.

They said Silat without the internal or the spiritual is not silat at
all; it is just movements.

There were tales of masters that could make their palms so hot they
can iron peoples clothes with their bare palm.

Could you Imagine getting slapped by this palm?

One guy said he saw people that could magnetize themselves to such
adegree that they could open locks and doors using just their
intentand palms.

I showed them some of our Serak jurus they said it looked more like old
style from Betawi or old Jakarta and a tough style from Banten.

They said that Cimande was a strong Kicking art.

But they said the best silat guys use their mind & heart to
win battles.

And their goal is to serve all and protect all.

They said the inner Badui DO NOT HAVE SILAT AND DO NOT DO SILAT.

The ones that live in the outskirts of the badui some of them do know
silat but only a few and they learned it from other places.

The real Badui people are just spiritual people that place all their
belief into Kejawan, "Gusti" God or the Creator and the Cosmos.

They are simple people who spend their time cultivating their hearts
and spirit; they have no concern what so ever for fighting.

I showed them the lankgkahs we use they were all familiar with them. I
showed them some of my qi gong training and Ilmu & Tenaga Dalam they
both confirmed it is like is down in their country.

So the tip is....the truth is out there: no one "OWNS" Silat and all
you need is in your own back yard. A good heart a good mind and a good
body go a long way.

Train every aspect of your training its not just about the physical.

Train your heart, your body, your spirit and your mind and above all
TRUST YOURSELF & THE CREATOR.

They also said that the real Silat is intuitive and allowing your self
to "move" as you would naturally move. I have always believed that and
its good to see some confirmation.

Peace & Happy Belated Thanks Giving.
Love, Guru Santiago Dobles
