CGSS SILAT Slow Training for Radical Handspeed
Do you own a 3lbs or 5 lbs dumbell?
If so put one dumbbell in your hand while you sit and watch TV or a
movie and perform as many slow reps as possible with deep breathing of
the root motions of a Sera juru ( I like to use juru 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
7, 9, 12, 14, with one dumbbell and for training with 2 dumbbells i
like juru 11,13, 18) . If you want, work with only one root motion at a
time.
MOVE VERY SLOW. DO NOT TRY TO MOVE FAST WITH WEIGHTS OTHERWISE
YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR LIGAMENTS AND JOINTS.
Train slow with deep breathing.
You will be surprised how much speed and power you will get from doing
your jurus slow with deep breathing and with a weight in your lead
hand.
Once you have done a good amount of reps of a juru motion switch to
the opposite hand.
Once you have confidence in the motion and you have developed good arm
strength gradually move to a 10lbs weight. AGAIN USE CAUTION and move
SLOW! Rome was not built in a day.
Once your arms are stronger from this kind of training, begin to do
root motions on a langkah with a dumbell in your hand.
For example: Use the Square Langkah "Sliwa or Ampat" and stand at the
base of the square in Balabay (Open horse stance with shoulders at a
45degree angle). Step with your right foot first to the left top corner
of the square (L step) once you have stepped perform a juru motion
with right arm and dumbbell in hand and then biset (Backsweep) back to
the starting position and now turn and steo to with the other foot to
the other corner of square and perform same juru motion but now with
left arm with dumbbell. I usually train juru motion # 2 for this and I
will do as many as I can on each side before I go to biset.
You will be surprised how fast you develope speed and power by doing
this sort of excercise but again the key is PRECISION, SLOW MOTION
TRAINING, & DEEP BREATHING.
Once you are confident in these motions and with weight in hand ( I
would recommend you do not go higher than 10lbs so you do not injure
your joints) add a weighted vest to the mix to help your overall body
strength increase.
Next time you go to do pukulan and a biset on a partner or an opponent
you will be surprised how effective and powerful you become.
Another option is to step of to a 45 degree angle (langkah muring) and
perform a juru motion with weight in hand per each step you make.
For a more intense workout that requires a lot of stamina, balance,
focus and breath, perform a sapu with dumbell in lead hand and once in
the sapu position, hold the leg up in the air like a "Shiva" statue
and perform as many SLOW juru motions as possible untill you simply
can not hold the leg in air. Once you finish one side go right to the
next leg and repeat excercise. For example do the sapu and then do as
many juru 2 entry motions (thousand bridges) as you can slowly with
leg in the air. With or with out a dumbbell in hand this excercise is
BRUTAL.
I have been told by some I have fast hands. I will let you in on a
little secret.....I NEVER TRAIN FAST! You want speed train EXTREMELY
SLOW and focused with proper breathing. My teacher Guru Cliff Stewart
has some of the fiercest and fastest Pukulan hands I ever felt and
seen. I know he also trains SLOW. Any time I have seen great masters
train the all seem to have one thing in common.....THEY ALL TRAIN
SLOW.
It makes sense to me to work out exactly how I would defend myself or
protect someone. Its seems like you would want to strengthen the
muscles you actually use in a fight as opposed to the ones that might
slow you down.
Train smart use your common sense and breathe deep.
For more effectiveness in this sort of training stick your tongue
against the roof of your mouth and make sure your spine is
straight....I will go into more details about that on another date.
Peace

Testimonials:
" The thing that I like the most about working with Guru
Dobles via CGSS distance course is the reality that one is
exposed to. Guru Dobles makes sure to send you enough
training videos to keep you occupied, its up to you to
actually make it happen. There are forum posts made that
constantly help one understand Silat, and how to train
with the right mind. Guru Dobles gives you the tools and
Silat will teach you, just take the steps down the path
and you will be very pleased with the results."
- Brady Hansen
"Guru Santiago's CGSS Pencak Silat distance course is second to none in terms of the quality and quantity of the material given to the student and also the level of support provided. In the videos and during in-person training sessions, he effortlessly demonstrates and articulates the science behind the movements. He also emphasizes the need for conditioning and constant practice to internalize the principles and to make the art one's own. Because of these things, I find the CGSS work very refreshing and personally empowering. - Pete P."

CGSS Pencak Silat Long distance training prt 3
Q & A
- How you will we learn Silat with CGSS LONG DISTANCE PROGRAM? You will learn silat by watching video clips sent to you in a private message either on Facebook or Email. Also you can interact with the instructor via skype or on the phone. Students are required to video tape themselves performing the weekly material that is sent to them either review, guidance and corrections by the Instructor. You can train all this stuff alone using "shadow Boxing". It is recommended that you get a training partner who also enrolls in the long distance training program and you both work out together learning the material. You will use your outline so you see more or less what is in the "ART" but in reality each thing in the outline is an art and science with in itself with loads of information.
- How long before we can test for rank? As the instructor sees your progress he will let you know when you are ready for ranking. Family based systems are not like "commercial dojo" black belt clubs etc. Even though we make silat commercially available to you, you must put in your time and train before you are considered by the instructor to take rank. The same goes for progressing to the levels of Junior Instructor & Senior Instructor & Full Instructor. More details will be posted on "ranking in CGSS". In the mean time you want to focus on your personal training of each weekly lesson. Get GOOD 1st then we will talk about RANK. Rank & Certificates are useless if you do not know the material and you can not use it properly.
- Will we learn Many techniques? No you will learn solid basics, principles and concepts that will allow you to have thousands of techniques if you choose to have them. We do not focus on technique instead we learn the martial science and principles. Each Week you work on one or two concepts or principles or aspects of your CGSS outline. The outline is not in any set ORDER instead the art is learned from all aspects & angles one step at a time. So its more like a circular experience than a "linear" one found in most common martial arts schools and systems. Remember SILAT has ALWAYS been a "CLOSED DOOR" system and it will remain truly a "Closed Door System" . So you will learn it as if you where learning it in person how I was taught by my Gurus and how I teach my personal local students.
- Am I allowed to Post my CGSS videos in Public? NO you are not allowed to post them in private or in public any where on the world wide web. If you do you will be kicked out of CGSS Perminantly.
- Am I allowed to Share the videos with my friends? Would you steal from your Mother & Father? Silat is a Family System lets keep it that way and honor the tradition and path you are about to walk on. If your friends wants to learn what you are doing encourage them to register and pay for the material. I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars and put in 12 years + in to learning this art. I have travelled all over the USA and Abroad to train with the BEST to accuire this knowledge I will share with you and I will gladly share it from my heart but you must follow the rules and respect the Guru's wishes and the traditions with in SILAT. If you respect the art and its teachers they in turn will reveal even more to you. All in due time : )
- Does Age matter? You must be of 18 years of age and you can train even in your 90's ! as long as your physician says its ok.
- Do I need any special gear or equiptment? I recommend you get 3lb dumb bells, and 2x 5lb kettle bells & 2 x10lb kettle bells. We use these a lot in personal training and cimande conditioning. Also we recommend a good wobble board to train on the best we have found is the dr. Changos (google it you will find it). You will need a nice TREE to work with for conditioning a steel pole will do. Also I recommend you get some therapuetic stretch bands or chords. Also it is recommended to do your jurus (forms) in a pool of in water where you can swim more details will be given on this subject in video lessons. In Cimande its very common to train immersed in Water.
- Will i be able to compete with Silat in the RING? No Silat is not a SPORT its Lethal and very Dangerous. You will however learn to Survive in Life. Silat is not about fighting its about survival and preservation of Life.
- How do receive "RANK" in CGSS. when the instructor feels you are ready to advance in RANK you will take a video test. Being a annual CGSS member you do not have any "testing" fees.
- How do I become an instructor? You must come train with your instructor in person at least 1x a year. And when your instructor feels you are ready you will be given a chance to test for rank and for Instructorship in CGSS.
- When will I be able to start a TRAINING GROUP. After you have learned the basics in the 1st phase. All phases will be posted up soon. More info to come soon. : )
Peace & God Bless
Guru Santiago Dobles
Remember that what you see below is not "curriculum" but more of an outline that is not in any particular order but instead its all the pieces to a big pie or puzzle. Each "item" in the outline is an "Art & Science" on its own. Phases will be posted soon. KEEP TRAINING!
